Sanjeewa Pushpakumara directed "Flying Fish"in 2011. It was produced with financial support of the Hurbert Bals fund of the International film festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
The films draws on stories from the directors life in his hometown of Trincomalee, Sri lanka. where flying fish was shot.
One village lady falls in love with army soldier and then she becomes pregnant. The couples attempts to abort the child but fails. While they are making love in the ruins of an abandoned building, her father sees them. While he doesn't confront her about what he has seen, the scene haunts him continuously.
as the war intensifies adult villager are recruited into the civil defenses force to protect the village boarder. Among this recruits is her father, who is punished by the soldiers from her lover's platoon for not being on guard one day he shoot himself inside the bunker......... .
